Listening to music has always been one of my favourite things to do. However I started noticing music covers in 2016, when I was jamming up to J.Cole’s album 4 Your Eyez Only. The album cover was so striking that I fell in love with the songs in it.

In this article, I will be writing or storing my favourite album covers and how they made me fall in love with the songs embedded in them.

good kid, m.A.A.d city- Kendrick Lamar

Album Cover for good kid, m.A.A.d city

This is my favourite body of work from Kendrick Lamar, I love this album because it’s like a movie. Kendrick narrated a story from the first track to the last track.
The album cover shows Kendrick, his Dad and his two uncles. It portrays his innocence while growing up in Compton, a place filled with gang violence and drugs. When listening to the album, you begin to understand the feel of the cover. This is why I love it so much; it’s powerful, striking and emotional. It’s gives out everything I want to feel from an album cover before going into the world it holds.

“And so I’m leaving you this record, 4 Your Eyes Only
Don’t you ever scratch or disrespect it” — J.Cole

This was the first body of work I listened to from J.Cole and since then I became a huge fan. The cover drew me to listen to the album, for me the black and white colour of the cover was quite intriguing and the expression of the boy staring at Cole begged questions.

Quick question: Does the album cover affect how you listen to the album or vice-versa?

What can I say it’s Kanye 🤷🏼‍♂️

Fam, these covers mehn… I started listening to Kanye this year and I have fallen in love with his sound. I won’t say much about this, I think the images above speak for themselves.
Just enjoy the cover art and listen to the album here

Circles — Mac Miller

Listening to the Album makes you fall in love with the album cover more. It expresses various areas of Mac’s life. You find him talk depression, love, family, fame and so much more. I love the fact that I could capture the central theme of this body of work right from looking at the cover.

To Pimp A Butterfly

This album cover is hard!!!!; you can see black men in front of the White House and a judge lying down. It shows you what to expect from the album and boy oh boy what an album this is. There is a special feeling I get when looking at this album cover. They did same justice as with Mac Miller’s Circles in the sense that the cover tells you the story the songs hold.
